1724 F Street NW is the headquarters conference facility where the United States Trade Representative receives foreign trade delegations for high level meetings and negotiations. When it was determined that this facility did not represent the United States appropriately for foreign delegations, OLBN was tasked with transforming the building’s exterior and interior public spaces, restoring the original architectural character and enhancing the operations of the facility. OLBN identified and restored key historic finishes throughout the public spaces and replaced the building’s front entrance based upon the discovery of an original design drawing. A new bronze canopy and redesigned front garden present a more welcoming streetscape and the reconfigured ground floor lobby presents a gracious space to visiting delegations while unobtrusively implementing necessary security measures.
