When it was determined that a third floor space on 7th Street NW Washington, DC was where Miss Clara Barton lived and operated her Missing Soldiers Office, OLBN was contracted to restore the space into a museum about Miss Barton’s activities during and after the Civil War.
During construction, OLBN discovered many additional items, such as gaslight piping and historic newspapers, as well as several details that increase the ability to interpret Miss Barton’s occupancy. Painted floorboards were identified as marking a passageway’s original location and internal doorways that were hidden behind wallpaper were found.
OLBN’s construction efforts are changing the original interpretation of this space and making this future museum a unique window on Civil War Washington, DC.
